Over the past several months, our church family gathered for three Elder Roundtable conversations centered on a shared vision: “Empowered by Christ, Equip the Saints, Seek the Lost” and rooted in our mission: to share opportunities to experience the presence of God. Each session invited us not only to reflect, but to participate in the ways God is shaping our life together. Like streams flowing from a single source, these movements are distinct yet deeply connected, creating tangible spaces where we encounter Him.
In our first gathering, we discussed the stream of Worship (Empowered by Christ). We were reminded that before structures and systems existed, God Himself brought forth life-giving streams (Genesis 1:6–10; 2:6). In the same way, the life of the church flows first from His presence. Jesus teaches that true worship is “in Spirit and truth” (John 4:23–24), inviting us into real encounters with the living God through awe, confession, and attentiveness (Psalm 95:6–7) and overflows into discipleship and mission (Rom 15:13). Alongside this, we explored governance as spiritual stewardship—an intentional, biblical framework designed not to control but to protect and nurture the body. Scripture portrays elders as shepherds who care for God’s people (1 Peter 5:1–3; Acts 20:28), exercising faithful oversight (Hebrews 13:17) and godly character
(1 Timothy 3:1–7; Titus 1:5–9). Through shared rhythms of worship, prayer, Scripture, and sacrament, we cultivate a people who are grounded, safe, and attentive to Christ’s leadership (Psalm 23:2–3). Here, we don’t just talk about God—we meet with Him.
Our second session looked at Discipleship (Equip the Saints). We reflected on the picture of a flourishing life—rooted like a tree planted by streams of water (Psalm 1:1–3)—and the early church’s devotion to teaching, fellowship, and prayer (Acts 2:42–47). Discipleship is grounded in Christ’s commission to “make disciples” (Matthew 28:19–20), calling us to be rooted and built up in Him (Colossians 2:6–7) and to abide in the true vine (John 15:1–5). This is supported through a shared Rule of Life, a simple, intentional pattern of practices that keeps us rooted in Christ both personally and together. Over time, grace forms us through disciplines, habits, and character into a people who reflect Jesus and shepherd others one step closer to Jesus. (Ephesians 4:11–16). Community groups are central to this vision, creating spaces where people are known, cared for, and formed, while also raising up new leaders and multiplying groups so that more people can grow. The question before us is both simple and searching: Who are we following, and who are we helping follow Christ?
Our final session was focused on Mission (Seek the Lost). We explored how the life of Christ naturally flows outward. Mission is not an added activity but the overflow of a life transformed by worship and discipleship (Romans 15:13). As we experience God’s presence, we are sent to join Him where He is already at work. We are called to be ready to give an answer for the hope within us (1 Peter 3:15), fixing our eyes on Jesus (Hebrews 12:2), and going as He sends us (Luke 10:1–11).
This outward movement reshapes how we live, give, and serve, recognizing that we are entrusted with much (Luke 12:48) and called to generous stewardship (2 Corinthians 9:6–8). Through relationships, shared resources, and simple acts of hospitality, we create opportunities for others to experience the presence of God, walking with them step by step toward Jesus.
Together, these three streams form a unified picture: a church rooted in Christ, formed in community, and sent into the world. As we continue forward, may we hold fast to this truth: Christ is the source. The church navigates the streams. God gives the growth.

Baby Bottles Fundraiser
This Mother’s Day through Father’s Day, Longview Community Church has a meaningful opportunity to support families in our community through the Premiere Choice Baby Bottle Fundraiser.
Beginning on Mother’s Day, empty baby bottles will be available at the church for you to take home. Over the next several weeks, you’re invited to fill your bottle with coins, cash, or checks, a simple act that can make a lasting impact. Once your bottle is filled, please return it to the church by Father’s Day.
This fundraiser is an easy and tangible way for individuals and families to participate in supporting life-affirming care and resources for those in need. Premiere Choice is one of the featured organizations for May Mission of the Month so we encourage everyone to take part. Grab a bottle, place it somewhere visible in your home, and watch how God can use your generosity over these next few weeks.

elder meeting highlights
At the April 21 meeting, the Elders spent time praying for the prayer cards from Sunday April 19, followed by discussion of chapters 10-12 of “The Biblical Role of Elders”. The Elders also signed prayer post cards.
Treasurer Jaime Boaglio shared that we received an anonymous $100,000 donation in March. Unfortunately, this skewed the Net Income, because member Contributions were still below budget; without the gift the Net Income would be about -$43,000.
Jay Holland shared the agenda from the most recent Properties meeting listing the status of various ongoing projects. He noted that the elevator testing has been taken care of. May 16 is the Spring Work Party and he invited the Elders to participate.
Ben West reported that at the last Missions meeting they had a report from Marcus Powers on his recent mission trip to San Francisco. They also discussed the “When Helping Hurts” book that is being studied on the 3rd Sunday each month. He noted that the Mission of the Month for April was FCA and Milky Cow Month. Ben also mentioned that there was an anonymous donor who provided funds for the solar panel project in Uganda! He reminded the Elders that there will be a dinner on April 29 at 6pm with Ephraim Tumusiime.
Jay explained that the agenda for the Bylaws meeting on May 3 will be to go step by step through the proposed changes. Elders will sit at each table to facilitate discussion.
Laura Powers asked for prayer about the future of MomCo and the leadership team. The numbers have been dwindling and they need to decide how to proceed next year.

During the month of May, we will be focusing on three local mission organizations, Love, INC, Premiere Choice for Women, and Chaplaincy of Cowlitz County. The following is excerpted from their websites:

Our mission is to provide a safe, caring, and non-judgmental space for anyone facing an unexpected or unsupported pregnancy. We believe every woman deserves access to accurate information, compassionate support, and free services—without pressure or judgment. As a local nonprofit, we do not receive government funding. Instead, we are sustained through the generosity of individuals, businesses, and organizations who share our mission of providing free, compassionate pregnancy services.

Chaplains serve free of charge, by invitation in three specific areas: emotional, relational, and spiritual.
Chaplains are not police officers/firefighters, they serve as CARE givers.

The Annual Congregational Meeting will be after worship on May 17, although much of the usual business will be conducted during the service. Printed copies of the proposed Bylaws changes are available at the Welcome Center and in the Church Office. There will be an additional Elder Roundtable in the Chapel on Sunday, May 3 at 8:30am to further discuss the proposed Bylaws changes.
Join us for the Spring Work Party on Sat, May 16 from 9am to 12pm! We will have some fun as we trim, rake, clean and organize around the facilities. No special skills are needed, just a smile, some gloves, yard tools if you have some, and a little effort. We are collecting individual bags of chips (such as the Costco value pack) and 8oz bottles of water for the Family Adventure Nights in June. Please bring donations to the tubs in the Lobby or by the Church Office.
Refresh and reflect at the May 9th Prayer Retreat. Mary and Randy Sundberg will share ways we can use Lectio Divina to hear God. Mary and Randy will prepare scripture and steps to practice Lectio Divina during our personal time, and there will be a discussion time before lunch. Join us at Mary Ross’ home at 395 Mill Creek Rd. The retreat starts at 9:30am and ends following a short, casual lunch at 12:30pm. Call Mary at (360) 636-3771 to reserve your spot or for more information.
There will be a Men’s Breakfast on May 16 from 7-9am. This is a regular event on the 3rd Saturday of the month in the Fellowship Hall. Start your morning with food and fellowship, and stick around for the Spring Work Party!
The Church Office will be closed on May 25 in observance of Memorial Day.
Our FISH Ministry is collecting donated 15 or 16oz cans of chili during April and May. You may drop off cans to any of the FISH boxes located throughout the church.
Recognition Sunday will be on Father’s Day, June 14. We will be honoring anyone with a “life event” since last June including graduates of pre-school, 2nd grade, 5th grade, Middle School, High School, College, and those who were married, had a first baby, or were retired. Please contact the Church Office to let us know if you qualify for any of these categories so we can be sure to recognize you!
