Longview Community Church was founded in 1923, making it the oldest church in Longview. The founder of our city, Robert A. Long, saw the need for an interdenominational church in his fledgling city, so encouraged a young Methodist minister by the name of Reverend Ed Gebert to come to Longview to lead such a congregation. He served as Senior Pastor for 35 years. The present sanctuary, a beautiful neo-Gothic building, was built in 1926, and is on the national register of historical places.
In the years since then, we have been served by only seven other senior pastors, six of them having been ordained in the Presbyterian Church (PCUSA), and our most current senior pastor from the Anglican tradition. We remain an independent non-denominational church.
Longview Community Church has a rich history of faith, discipleship, and service to the community. We are grateful for the saints who have gone before us and look forward to continuing this legacy of ministry in the future.
As part of our 100th Anniversary celebration, the History team put together a wonderfully informative series of 8 videos telling the story of Longview Community Church through photos, interviews, music and narration!
