By Nathaniel Duscha, Youth Pastor
You have probably seen me around church for a few weeks now. You may even have asked yourself, Who is that tall guy with all the tattoos? Well, I’d like to take a moment to tell you a little more about myself.
I grew up in Longview and was involved in different youth ministry programs around town. After finishing high school at Three Rivers Christian and my Associates at LCC, I moved out to Minnesota to attend Crown College and study Bible and Theology. After a year of school, I started a year-long internship in youth ministry. At the end of the internship, I put school on hold to become an official part of the staff team, and remained at that church for two more years. During this time I primarily served as the Associate Director of Student Ministry, but also had opportunities to serve as the Interim Technology Director and the Interim Worship Director.
I love making music and worshiping through music. While living in Minnesota, I had opportunities to play for multiple different music groups and worship teams. I was the drummer for Crown’s traveling worship team where I got to travel all around the Midwest and help lead worship for youth camps, worship nights, and other special events for all kinds of youth programs. I also served on the worship team for my church playing drums, guitar and bass.
Earlier in this article I mentioned my tattoos, and if you’ve seen me around the church, I’m sure you’ve seen them. That’s the point! I was very intentional about putting my tattoos in visible locations because I want people to ask me about them. I’m very open and unapologetic about my faith, I literally wear it on my sleeve. My tattoos have opened up conversations with so many different people in unexpected situations, allowing me to use them to share my story, my faith and the good news of Jesus Christ. If you want to know more about my tattoos, what they mean to me, and why I have them, please ask!
In January 2020, I married my wife Charity, who I met in Longview during high school. Earlier this year, we found out that our family of two was becoming a family of three! This news led to our decision to move back to Longview and have our daughter back home. She is due October 1st. Charity and I are excited to see where God takes our life together as we enter into this new season of life as parents!
I plan to finish my degree in Biblical and Theological studies online, and am looking forward to what God has planned for the youth ministry here at LvCC!

new fall schedule
By Dave Hendrickson, Lead Pastor
TRANSFORMED by Christ…is part of LvCC’s vision. One way for you to be transformed is by being part of a group (think 12 disciples) who walk (study, reflect, discuss his Word) with Jesus. Therefore, to help us live transformed lives, LvCC is inviting everyone (child, adult, youth, new to faith, mature in faith, knows scripture, hasn’t read scripture) to participate in Discipleship Time.
Beginning, Sunday, September 12th 9am there will be several Discipleship opportunities for you to join.
Emotionally Healthy Spirituality-Adult Group
What God Had Written to Us-Adult Group (begins with Galatians and Ephesians)
Then beginning Wednesday, September 15th from 6-8 pm, in partnership with Renewal Church we will view and discuss Season 1 of “The Chosen”. We will be gathering at Renewal Church that meets at the Roxy Theater/Hearth Coffee.
How is Jesus Transforming you this Fall? Are you willing to help facilitate a Child or Teen Group? Does He want you to participate in one of the adult groups? If you would like more information, please call the church office.

By Mary Gronseth, Interim Director of Children’s Ministry
What a fun month we have had in Children’s Ministry! We had a preschool Bear Hunt Day. With their safari hats and their bear masks, they searched the Chapel for Bears. They found over 100 Bears in the Chapel. Who would have known? We heard a couple bear stories, made a bear puppet, decorated bear muffins, and pretended we were walking through grass, a river, around a tree through the mud and finally came across a bear cave. We were all tired after all that bear hunting, but what a fun morning with our preschoolers.
Then a week later, we had our Elementary age kids with us for an afternoon. We started with a couple of energetic games, then we made slime that you could blow bubbles with. That was pretty fun! After blowing all those bubbles, we made our own ice cream sundaes. What a fun afternoon having fun with our great kids.
As we look to Fall, we do have needs for adult help. We will be having children’s classes during the 9:00 Discipleship time. We are still in need of teacher and helpers in preschool, kindergarten through 2nd grade and 3rd through 5th grade. If you have an interest or want to know more about it I would love to chat with you. It’s a lot of fun and you will be blessed getting to know our kids and sharing God’s Love with them. I hope to talk with you soon. Thank you for the joy of working with our kids!
CALLING ALL PARTY LOVERS AND PLANNERS!
Our church family will be celebrating 100 years of ministry, fellowship, and growth in 2023. Seems like a long way off— but not really! So we need to begin to gather ideas and suggestions about how you would like to celebrate the past and move into our future. We need all ages (Youth to Senior Adults) to give us your thoughts.
If you are interested in helping to develop thiscentennial celebration and the re-launching of our next 100 years, please gather with us after the Sunday service on October 17, to begin brainstorming. If you can’t make the Sunday time, we will also meet on Tuesday, October 19, at 6:30 PM. (The specific places will be announced closer to the dates). We will have some snacks to inspire those brain-cells! If you can’t make either date, but would like to be part of this planning process or have questions, please contact either Karen Pickett, 360-560-3082,or email@example.com or Sandy Rountree, 360-423-7351 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
2023 will be a great time to celebrate our LVCC family! We hope you will join us in the planning.
Special Note: There are several used 3 inch 3-ring binders available in the museum. Contact Karen or Sandy if you would like to have one or more!
church picnic and back-to-school bash
On August 22, Dave and Gail Hicks graciously opened their farm for the All-Church Picnic. Besides the barbecue provided by the church, those who attended enjoyed fellowship, playing volleyball, riding a zipline and playing on the property and in the stream. The next week during Worship the Children’s and Youth ministries shared slideshows featuring this summer’s events, Dave gave the Blessings of the Backpacks, followed by another picnic at the Back-to-School Bash. There was great food, a bouncy house, and face/arm painting. Lots of fun to end the summer!!

This year has seen some changes. It was fascinating to meet with the Women’s Fellowship officers and Circle Presidents to discuss new wording in the Women’s Fellowship Guidelines. I was assured by what HASN’T changed! Circles continue–enjoying friendship, faith-building, and finding ways to serve together. We need more participants! ~Dolphine Mack
