This summer we sent an intergenerational team of students and families to serve at Camp Attitude. Camp Attitude is a not-for-profit Christian organization dedicated to providing a unique Christian camping experience for families in the disability community. Their mission is to advocate for the needs of people with disabilities, educate churches and young people in ways they can serve the special needs community, and disciple people with disabilities.
Our high school students were paired up as buddies with campers. Their role was to be a friend and support to fellow students with disabilities. Our families helped out in practical ways around the camp, cooking meals, cleaning, and doing maintenance. We heard a moving report from our students last week. Many indicated that this was an eye opening and formative time in their lives. We hope to continue this meaningful partnership in years to come.
