History of our Fellowship...

The Longview Community Church was founded in 1923, making it the oldest church in Longview. The founder of our city, Robert A. Long, saw the need for an interdenominational church in his fledgling city, so encouraged a young Methodist minister by the name of Reverend Ed Gebert to come to Longview to lead such a congregation. He served as Senior Pastor for 35 years. The present sanctuary, a beautiful Gothic building, was built in 1926.

In the years since then, we have been served by only five other Senior Pastors, all of them having been ordained in the Presbyterian Church; thus the Presbyterian flavor to our services. We remain an independent evangelical non-denominational church.

Read a special issue of the Communitarian. The October 26, 2003 issue highlights some of the history of the Longview Community Church's past eighty years. This is a web based version of the paper edition and the formating has been changed to fit your screen.
