| The
Longview Community Church was founded in 1923, making it the oldest
church in Longview. The founder of our city, Robert A. Long, saw
the need for an interdenominational church in his fledgling city,
so encouraged a young Methodist minister by the name of Reverend
Ed Gebert to come to Longview to lead such a congregation.
The present sanctuary, a beautiful Gothic building,
was built in 1926. He served as Senior Pastor for 35 years.
In
the years since then, we have been served by only five other Senior
Pastors, all of them having been ordained in the
Presbyterian Church; thus the Presbyterian flavor to our services.
We remain an independent evangelical non-denominational church.
